Kishtwar, June 03, (Scoop News)- Asserting that Peoples Democratic Party is a serious contender for power in order to shape the future of state, the party’s Chief Spokesperson and Member Legislative Council Naeem Akhtar today said that the recently concluded Parliamentary Elections should be an eye opener for those who have always believed that power in Jammu and Kashmir was structured around their connections in New Delhi. Lambasting the ruling coalition alliance, National Conference and Congress for hoodwinking people, Akhtar said that a new dawn of development and prosperity was awaiting and people have to play their decisive role in order to show the doors to those who have always traded their interest in order to cling to power. Akhtar was addressing one day convention of PDP Youth wing here today. He was accompanied by MLC Syed Asgar Ali, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, Youth President, Shahnawaz Hussain, Noor Hussain Malik, Ishtiyaq Hussain Waza and Umar Malik. “The power lies with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and not elsewhere, as has been believed and practiced by them (NC and Congress)”, he said adding, “The power lies with people and it is the people who are source of power in Jammu and Kashmir but unfortunately some people have failed to read writings on the wall”.
He expressed dismay over assertions of the former union minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and anti-PDP tirade during his election campaign in LS Polls saying the statements made by him were not expected. “While we understand the limited options of Omar Abdullah and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah but the assertions made by GN Azad were unfortunate that of a leader of his stature and experience”, he said. Akhtar said that people have proved the Congress leader wrong over his assertion that PDP should not have contested parliamentary polls as they were not having any connection in New Delhi. “We did not respond to the taunt at that time but now even the leaders like GN Azad should realize that PDP was a strong contender for power in Jammu and Kashmir only to bring a considerable change and people have the right to make their choice”.
He also responded to the allegations of Omar Abdullah, leveled during the LS Polls, that PDP fielded candidates in Jammu region in order to help a particular party. “Both Congress and NC had made their own choice to contest elections in coalition and how could they expect us to run a charity mission”. He said that PDP was a political party as that of NC and Congress as such it should not be expected to make its choice at the convenience of others. “The poll results are clear indications that the party has grown up even in Jammu region with considerable support among the masses from all the districts”, he said. The recent electoral exercise, he said, has restore the credibility of the election system in Valley and “we expect that it will strengthen the democratic process and trust of the people that they can make and break the government in Jammu and Kashmir”
“PDP is banking on the realization among the people that the governments are not elected to be their masters but they are there to serve them at their pleasure”, he said adding that the new element in political scenario of Jammu and Kashmir could be a turning point in ensuring good governance and resolution of issue and PDP hopes to set new standards of governance, development and political resolutions under Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
