Power Ministry directs NHPC to recruit local youth for Uri project

New Delhi/Srinagar, June 28 (Scoop News) –The Central Government today directed the NHPC to make recruitments to Class III and Class IV vacancies at its Uri project from local youth only. The decision to this effect came today at a meeting between Union Power Minister,  Sushil Kumar Shinde and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control,  Taj Mohi ud Din here today.

            The meeting was held in the backdrop of stoppage of work at Uri project following protests by local people.

            The meeting resolved that recruitment to Class III and Class IV vacancies at the project would be made locally from the youth living within the five kilometer radius. The process would be completed within one month to facilitate speed up of work at the project, the meeting decided.

            As for the technical staff among this lot, the meeting decided, if the requisite number of youth is not available locally, NHPC would train local youth at ITI, Uri for the purpose. Once trained fully, these youth would be put to job at the project, the meeting decided.

            The meeting also agreed on the resumption of work immediately at the project and the NHPC was asked to take necessary steps for the purpose.

            The Union Minister appreciated the concern of  Taj for engaging local youth in the projects to redress the problem of unemployment in the State.

            On the occasion,  Taj also handed over the report of Cabinet Sub Committee on the return of power projects, also approved by the State cabinet, to the Union Power Minister for the perusal of the Union Government.

            Union Minister of State for Power,  K. C. Venugopal, Union Power Secretary, P. Umashankar, Chairman & Managing Director, NHPC,  A. B. L. Srinivastava, Jt. Secy. Power,  Devinder Singh and officers of J&K Government were present in the meeting.
