After the General Election that took place on February, 18th in Pakistan, both PPP and PML(N), have been very patient and took their own time to chalk out a program in forming a government in Pakistan. Each party took stock of the situation, understood each other, stuck to their own political stand and position with a sense of mutual respect and understanding and finally came up with a land mark declaration at Muree, that will go down in the history of Pakistan as a fine peace of political skill and understanding. PPP was headed by Asif Ali Zardari, who perhaps intends to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan within months.Till such time, there are gossips and a number of names are being toyed with for the august office of Prime Ministership. The PML(N) is headed by Nawaz Sheriff.
The Muree declaration envisages a six point program,
i) To form a coalition government bowing to the wishes of the mandate of the peoples of Pakistan during the election that was held on February,18th, 2008.
ii) To restore the deposed judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to the pre-November 30th position, within one month from the formation of the Government, by seeking the mandate of the Pakistan’s National Assembly.
iii) The parties agreed that all allied parties would accept the Prime Ministerial candidate nominated by the PPP and the Prime Minister would abide by the common agenda of the parties to the declaration.
iv) The speaker and the deputy Speaker for the National Assembly would be from the PPP and the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker for the Punjab Assembly would be from the PML(N).
v) The PML(N) would be part of the National Government, while the PPP would be part of the Punjab Government.
vi) Taking the above solid opinion into account, the parties are ready for forming the government. Therefore, sessions of the National Assembly and the Provincial Assemblies should be convened immediately.
The Muree declaration is simple and straightforward and akin to that of Common Minimum Programme evolved by the UPA in India.
Congrats to the proposed democratic government. Long Live democracy in Pakistan !!
