Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian co-chairman senator Asif Ali Zardari and the PML-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif
Held a three-hour long meeting on Thursday evening here at the Zardari house and discussed the options for formation of coalition government.
The leaders said that they have reached consensus over Matters of strengthening the democracy, independence of judiciary and
ensuring good governance.
"There is no disagreement between the two parties over independence of the judiciary and we would try to reach common agenda regardless of some reservations," PPP co-chairman Senator Asif Ali Zardari told journalists in a joint media conference with Mian Nawaz Sharif after the meeting.
Asif Ali Zardari said he and Mian Nawaz Sharif have discussed the matters of mutual political interest in detail and look
forward for each other’s cooperation and political support to form the government.
"We donot foresee any problem in reaching the ultimate consensus as both the PPP and PML-N hope to resolve the pending issues through newly elected parliament," he said.
The PPP co-chairman said the first resolution in the new parliament would aim at demanding probe by into the murder of Benazir Bhutto by the United Nations.
He said his party would also work together with other political parties including Awami National Party and aims at forming a broader national government.
Zardari said, "our party believes in democracy and resolution of all issues including Balochistan through political means."
Asif Zardari said PPP has also chalked out concrete policies to resolve economic and social issues of the country and it would
seek consultations from other parties.
Nawaz Sharif said the Charter of Democracy would be implemented in letter and spirit as both the parties have no differences over the restoration of 1973 Constitution in its original form.
The PML-N leader said his party respects the public mandate given to PPP as the former has emerged as leading party in the parliament.
"Meanwhile, we will extend our full cooperation to the PPP government in Centre as well as the provinces during all the circumstances," he asserted.
He said, "my stance over restoration of judiciary and deposed judges is still intact but the upcoming parliament would decide
the matter."
"We do not need any help to form the government and I think President Pervez Musharraf should resign as soon as possible," Nawaz added.
