New Delhi, Feb 03: External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday contradicted National Security Adviser MK Narayanan, saying Pakistan has so far not responded officially on India’s dossier on Mumbai attacks.
Mukherjee’s remarks came after Narayanan said that Pakistan was probing the Mumbai attacks in a manner an investigating agency "should proceed" and has sent two sets of questions to India’s dossier, one of which has already been replied to.
"What I am aware of is that after the receipt of the dossier by Pakistan, the Pakistan government has reverted to us and asked number of questions to which answers have been provided," he told a news channel.
However, the External Affairs Minister today said the Indian government was still awaiting a response from Islamabad, adding the NSA’s remarks were his own.
Mukherjee had yesterday said that India "hardly" had any choice except to patiently wait for Pakistan to respond to the dossier.
"We won’t get anything by simply losing our patience, so hardly we have a choice," he said.
India gave the dossier of evidence on January 5 and has since been waiting for Pakistan to respond officially. Pakistan has said it is investigating the matter and would get back to India as soon as it is over.
