There was neither old wine in the old bottle nor new wine in the old bottle. Prnab Mukerjee who also holds the Finance Portfolio did not infuse any enthusiasm to anybody, whether common man, industrialists, policy-watchers as he presented a budget which has kept everything under status quo.
Besides highlighting the so-called achievements of the UPA and reading out a rather boring Statement of Accounts, there was nothing to look forward to the budget. It is understandable that this is a more a vote-on-account because of the impending elections, but, that did not mean that there could not have been some policy initiatives in reviving the economy badly hit by the economic meltdown.
The negative reaction of the Stock Market is on the expected lines.
