Mother & Child week preparation reviewed.
CHITRAL: To review preparation for launching mother and child week (campaign) that would be kicked from Nov 2 to Nov 7 a high level meeting was held here under the chair of District coordination Officer Chitral Rahmatullah Wazir at his office. Mother and child week is celebrating (launching) under national program for primary health care in collaboration with UNICEF. The stakeholders discussed different aspects of the mother and child week and previewed how to success the campaign and to boost health of them. During the mother & child week campaign default and missing children from first day of born upto 2 years of age would be vaccinated. While children from 2 years to 5 years of age would be de-wormed and they would be given tablets for de-worming (to kill and eradicate abdominal worms). Besides it during a week long campaign pregnant women would be injected TT injection (Tetanus and toxocated ). Main objective for kicking this week (campaign) to cover all mother and children who have missed from preventive vaccine and injection in previous national immunizations days and routine vaccination. During this advocacy meeting DCO Chitral stressed upon all the stakeholders that this is a noble task to save mother (pregnant women) and children from infectious disease and saving them from disability, which is causing a nuisance for the whole society. He said that we should to play vital role in this noble task so as save the society from disability.
During the one week campaign lady health supervisors will monitor work of 504 lady health workers, 55 Expanded Program for Immunization (EPI) staff, 45 staff of Agha Khan Health Service for Pakistan to assured that no child or mother is missing from vaccination and administering TT injection. Dr. Ibrahim District coordinator of National Program briefed about the current situation in the district regarding health problems of children and their mothers as well as pregnant women. The advocacy meeting was attended by Executive District Officer Health Dr. Sher Qayum, Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital Dr. Nazir Ahmad, Police officers, representatives of education department, DORE, Coordinator EPI, religious leaders, leaders of political parties heads of line department and representatives of civil societies including AKES, AKHS who participated in pre campaign meeting for preparation to success the campaign. At last Dr. Ibrahim host of the program thanked all participants for their fully cooperation and announced that a walk would also be held on Saturday regarding awareness raising among the masses in this regard.
The campaign would also be fully participated and supported by EDO health department, Peoples Primary Health initiative, (PPHI), EPI, AKHSP, Primary health care and national program family planning and primary health care, mobile immunization health organization (MIHO) staff to success the campaign.
