A massive pre-monsoon sanitation campaign would be carried out across Kerala from May 9 to 15 to keep the environs clean and healthy as part of efforts to prevent outbreak of epidemics in the rainy season.
Announcing this after a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said for each district one minister would be assigned to co-ordinate the campaign.
The participation of local bodies, voluntary organisations and student and youth outfits would be ensured in the campaign. In the last two years, parts of the state were hit by incidence of various kinds of viral fever during the monsoon season which usually begins in June.
