Based on the recent study, pregnant moms who eat fish (with less mercury) regularly have preschoolers who are more intelligent.
Researcher discovered that 341 3-year old kid whose moms eats more than 2 servings of fish each week when they were pregnant, in general shows higher results during verbal, visual and motor development test.
“Recommendations for fish consumption during pregnancy should take into account the nutritional benefits of fish as well as the potential harms from mercury exposure,” says Dr. Emily Oken of
Oily fish like salmon, tuna and sardines contains omega-3 fatty acids which is important in the development of the brain of a child. The only problem is that fatty fish may have the possibility of being contaminated by mercury, a toxic metal which can poison brain cells, particularly a fetus or a child.
