Best BBA College iLEAD & The Corner Courtyard in association with Kindle magazine unveils ‘Turning the actor’s instrument ‘, an intensive 5 day acting workshop with ace Indian playwright and writer Mahesh Dattani, from 6th June 2014 to 10th June 2014 at the colossal iLEAD Campus.
About Kindle
Kindle is a national monthly in English, being published from Kolkata since August 2008. In the last five years, they have established themselves as a progressive journal, specializing in long form narrative journalism covering a host of pertinent issues.
Outside of bringing out its regular issues, Kindle Magazine also directly engages with its readers through discussions, debates, film screenings and other interfaces.
An overview of the event
Kindle Magazine is presenting the first in a series of workshops with notable practitioners from the fields of cinema, theatre, writing and the other arts. The first one is a writing and acting workshop with the eminent playwright and director, Mahesh Dattani. Over a period of 5 days, the workshop will rigorously work with 15 aspiring writers and 20 actors towards enhancing their skill set. There will be a screening process for selecting participants which will be done by Dattani himself on the basis of the quality of the applications received. Using cinematic texts, plays and other material, the workshop will also be a platform to present and fine tune fresh work. At the end of the workshop, the actors will be presenting on the basis of the works created by the writers.
About Mahesh Dattani
Mahesh Dattani is an Indian director, actor and writer. He wrote such plays as Final Solutions, Dance Like a Man, Bravely Fought the Queen, On a Muggy Night in Mumbai, Tara, and Thirty Days in September.
He is the first playwright in English to be awarded the Sahitya Akademi award. His plays have been directed by eminent directors like Arvind Gaur, Alyque Padamsee and Lillete Dubey.
All his plays address social issues, not the very obvious ones, but the deep-seated prejudices and problems that the society is usually conditioned to turn away from. His plays deal with gender identity, gender discrimination, and communal tensions. The play ‘Tara’ deals with gender discrimination, ‘30 Days in September’ tackles the issue of child abuse head on, and ‘Final Solutions’ is about the lingering echoes of the partition.
