Jammu,December 18 (Vijay Kumar) – J&K Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah on Friday said the present education system in the country has put kids under heavy pressure of achieving higher results in academics right from their early age. “This in a way snatches the childhood from the kids which we have to ensure them while caring for their academics. As a parents and educationists we have to evolve a system in which kids grow and develop both academically and as capable persons”, he added.
Addressing the Annual Day function of Jodhamal Public School in Jammu, Omar Abdulla while laying stress on all round educational and personality development of students, called for nurturing children in such an academic atmosphere where they do not lose their childhood. “While excelling in academics, the extra-curricular activities are equally essential for the overall personality development of a child”, he emphasized.
He said that strong competition to seek better marks for getting admission in higher classes and in good schools has shorten the childhood of a student which should receive our focus. “The exposure of children to the environment, nature and other day to day activities of life is imperative to contribute towards all round development of a child”, he added.
The Chief Minister said that his government is focusing added attention to the personality development of children. “Modern methods of imparting education along with universalizing co-curricular activities including sports are being encouraged in the educational institutions”, he said adding that the schools in public sector should give equal importance to the extra-curricular activities to help all round development of the child. “All of today’s children cannot become doctors, scientists, professors or academicians of repute. However, if the schools nurture the personality development with academics, one thing is sure that they will never fail in their life in whatsoever activity they take to”, he said.
Omar asked the parents and teachers to work in unison in creating a bright future for the children who have to shoulder the futuristic challenges and accomplish the tougher tasks.
The Chief Minister congratulated the teachers and management of the school for the academic and extra-curricular performances during the short period of five years. “The outstanding performance depicting the important issues of global warming, environment and pollution, given by the young children on the Annual day of the school was really food for thought to all who witnessed it, as the young buds innocently reminded us of our responsibility and duties”, he said.
The Principal of the school, S. Krishana presented the annual report of the school detailing various curricular and extra-curricular performances of the school at the state and national levels. The Chairman of Jodhamal Trust, J. K. Kuthiala presented vote of thanks to the Chief Minster lauding the efforts of Omar to strengthen the state’s educational sector.
