Preservation of forest is must for environment, Ecology: Altaf

  Srinagar, October 11 (Scoop News) –    Minister for Forest and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad today stressed the need for preservation of forest wealth which is must for environment and ecology.

     The Minister was addressing at a function after inaugurating two-day national seminar on Himalayan Resources, issues, Challenges and Management Strategies at Kashmir University Srinagar. The seminar was organized by the Department of Geography and Regional Development.

     The Minister said that Forest Act as catalyst in the promotion of the tourism in the state.

     The Minister sought the cooperation of the people and organization in the protection and preservation of the forests says their preservation is necessary for the prosperity of J&K.

  Mian Altaf stressed the need for the conservation of Environment and sustainable use of resources by adopting the indigenous and appropriate modes of techniques for the exploitation of resources. He has stressed that there is a dire need to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign at the gross root level for the conservation of local environment.

  Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, Prof. Talat Ahmad, while delivering the presidential remarks has retreated to focus on institutionalized research for addressing the specific problems like Glacial Recession, Changing Hydrological Regimes and |Land Use/ Land Cover changes. He has made announcement about the establishment of two new research institutes, Institute of Glaciology to be sponsored by DST and Centre of Atmospheric Physics and Mountain Metrology to be sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.

  The Minister has also appreciated and acknowledged to take due cognizance of the recommendations to be framed by experts and scientists during the brain storming deliberations of the seminar.
