First of all congratulations should go out to President-Elect Barrack Obama for his historic victory over Senator John McCain. America was in desperate need for change and I think Obama will be the guy to bring this about. Obama has a huge challenge ahead of him with Iraq, the economy, health care and social security. Not sure why he wanted the job as president, I suppose it is because he loves his country.
My concern for President Obama is the high expectations that have been set by the American public. Obama has said that change will not occur overnight and it could take years for significant change to occur. I think people accept the fact change will not occur immediately, however how patient are the American People?
I think Obama needs to be realistic about his goals and realize that he is going to have to break some of his election promises. Obama is not going to be able to end America’s involvement in Iraq overnight. This is going to take some time to scale back their operation in that country. I think his health care plan will be dead in the water due the expense of the program. Obama may also need to raise taxes on the middle class. His platform is for raising taxes on people that make over 250k a year; however lets face it the bulk of taxes collected come from the middle class. With America in the midst of the worst economic crisis in decades you can be sure that the tax payer is going to pay a bit more no matter what class they are.
These are huge issues that Obama is going to have to deal with in his Presidency. If he can turn America around Obama will go down as a great President. If he cannot achieve his goals and turn the country around Americans will grow very impatient and quickly discard Obama and his fellow Democrats. I think that Americans are far too impatient and will not give Obama a chance thus limiting him to one term. My hope is President Obama does a good job and turns the country around and becomes a great president. We shall see in the next few years.
