President-elect Obama’s Letter to Malia and Sasha

Less than a week before he takes over from President George Bush as the 44th president of the United States of America, President-elect Barack Obama has written his two daughters telling them that they and other kids like them are the reasons why he ran to become president of the United States of America.

Yahoo news, ‘When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me-how I’d make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world’ Obama said in the letter published in Parade magazine, a weekend newspaper color supplement.

‘I realized that my own life wouldn’t count much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that’s why I ran for president: because of what I want for you and for every child of this nation’ wrote the soon-to be Dad-in-Chief.

Obama’s wish list for children includes challenging and inspirational schools; equal opportunity to go to a university regardless of their family’s financial standing’ and well-paid jobs and benefits such as health care and a pension plan that will allow them to ‘retire with dignity’.

In his letter he said ‘These are the things I want for you- to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world’

‘And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That is why I have taken our family on this great adventure, he wrote.

This is part of the letter that he sent to her daughter, Malia and Sasha less that a week before he takes over as the new president of the United States of America.

The Obamas are moving to the White House on Tuesday for the inaugural ceremonies. His two daughters are still awaiting the puppy that was promised to them by their father as his gift. Earlier, the President-elect had narrowed down his choice to two dog breeds and the final choice is forthcoming, he said.

He said that choosing the family dog is even harder than deciding on his choice for his commerce secretary.
