President of India interacts with flood affected people in Leh

 

 Leh –Ladakh (J&K), September 01 (Scoop News) – The President, s Pratibha Singh Patil today visited Solar Colony Choglamsar (Leh), where the flood victims are being rehabilitated. She interacted with the flood hit people and enquired about the relief and rehabilitation measures.

            The President was accompanied by Governor,  N N Vohra, Chief Minister,  Omar Abdullah, Union New and Renewable Energy Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and the Chief of the Army Staff, General VK Singh.

            The Deputy Chief Minister,  Tara Chand, Tourism Minister,  Nawang Rigzin Jora, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Minister  Qamar Ali Akhoon, the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh  Chering Dorjay and the Executive Councilors of Hill Council, received the President at Leh Airport.

            Pratibha Singh Patil said that her purpose to visit Leh was to share the pain of the flood affected people, adding the whole India is with the people of Ladakh in this hour of grief. She appreciated the courage of the flood affected for bravely facing the challenges and tiding over the calamity.

            The President said that the Prime Minister has already visited Leh to take stock  of the situation during which he announced rehabilitation package for the flood hit victims.  s Patil assured that promises made by the Prime Minister would be fulfilled. She further assured the people that the Central and the State Governments would extend every possible support and assistance for the welfare of the flood victims of Ladakh.

            The Deputy Commissioner, Leh  Tsering Angchok briefed the President about the progress of rehabilitation measures taken by the administration for the calamity hit victims, giving an account of the extent of damages and loss of human lives and public properties.

            On this occasion, s Pratibha Singh Patil distributed relief material (shawls) among the flood victims,which she had brought from Delhi herself.

            Later, the President addressed the brave soldiers of Fire and Fury Corps at Rinchen auditorium in Leh. She conveyed her appreciation to the troops for their dedication and commitment in guarding the motherland in inhospitable terrain under extreme climatic conditions and stressed the need for alertness at all levels.
