Srinagar August, 06 (Scoop News) – The President, s. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, has expressed her grief over the loss of precious human lives due to flash floods caused by the cloudburst in Leh.
In a communication to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, N. N. Vohra, s. Pratibha Patil said that she was saddened to learn about the flash floods caused by the cloudburst in which a number of persons had lost their lives and some are still missing, at Leh.
The President conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased in this calamity.
s. Pratibha Patil has observed: “I am sure that the State Government and other authorities are making all efforts to provide relief and support to the affected families”.
The Governor, N. N. Vohra, has expressed grief over the large number of persons killed and the enormous loss of private and public property due to heavy rains and flash floods in Leh town and its adjoining areas.
The Governor expressed his deep sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of all those who had been injured in this natural calamity. He called upon the State Administration to immediately mobilize all required assistance to restore the public services and the telecommunication system. The Governor appreciated the promptitude with which the Police and Central Police Forces, and particularly the Army, had come to the rescue of the affected population.
Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives and property in flash flood triggered by cloudburst in Ladakh region .
The Deputy Chief Minister expressed sympathies with the affected families and wished speedy recovery to these injured in the accident.
Instructions have been issued to the district administration for undertaking rescue and relief operations on war footing and extending specialized medicare to those injured in the calamity, he added.
Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives and property in Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh Division due to cloudburst and torrential rain last night.
In his message, the Minister conveyed his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in natural calamity. He said the Government is at the job and rescue operation has already been launched for providing every possible assistance to the stranded people, adding that the administration has geared up its men and machinery for the purpose and is also monitoring the situation round-the-clock.
Akhoon has also expressed his concern over the damage to property in Kargil due to heavy rain and flood. He directed the district administration of both the districts to provide immediate relief to the affected and asses the damages caused for sanctioning compensation.
The Minister asked the authorities of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh and Kargil to supplement the Government efforts in handling the situation.
Minister for Ladakh Affairs and Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather has expressed profound shock and grief over the enormous loss of life and property due to flash floods that struck Leh town and some adjoining areas during the intervening night of August 5 and 6, 2010.
Rather has expressed heart-felt sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured persons. He has assured every possible assistance to the victims of this natural calamity and urged both the State and district administration to immediately reactivate men and machinery to provide relief to the affected people. He has called for early restoration of public services, telecommunication and road links in the town and other affected areas.
Rather has also directed the district administration of Leh and Kargil to assess the loss of life and property immediately so that urgent measures are taken to provide relief to the victims.
Rather has also asked the administration to be in a state of readiness to meet any eventuality in view of incessant rains all over the State since yesterday.

PDP leaders asked the State Government to provide all possible assistance and relief to the affected people.
