According to a Research conducted by Ms.Lindsey Leenars, a P.hd Student in Psychology attached to the University of Alberta Educational Psychology, teenage girls who consider themselves attractive are more prone to the risk of getting emotionally blackmailed in the form of bullying. In addition, they run the risk of being socially ostracized and also fall prey to the rumor-mongers. They are also exposed to physical harms.
These results emerged consequent to her analysis of data from about 2300 students, aged between 12 and 18, who filled in a questionnaire anonymously. The questionnaire basically elicited information asking them to rate their perceived traits in terms of attractiveness, social activity, friendship and involvement in social problems. Females who perceived themselves as attractive had a 35% chance of getting victimized through bullying. This was in sheer contrast to males of similar category as their chances of being bullied decrease by 25%.
The study would be useful for educational institutions in designing their anti-bullying programmes and also may throw more light on issues relating to ‘aggressive behavior’.
