Jammu, December 31, (Scoop News)- Handing over Training-cum-Placement Letters to 300 Jammu and Kashmir youth selected under UDAAN by the Canara Bank at Zorawar Singh Auditorium here, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Tuesday said that the talent and capacity of youth of the State are second to none and they are in search of opportunities and platform to show their leadership qualities and zest to work with commitment and highest degree of calibre.
“Jammu and Kashmir has undergone a difficult and dark phase of militancy which has largely impacted the career and opportunities of the youth”, he said adding that lack of opportunity to prove their qualities has put Jammu and Kashmir youth in a disadvantageous position. “They seek openings and opportunities rather than any compassion as they are full of enthusiasm, commitment and qualifications”, he asserted.
The Chief Minister said that youth affairs have remained under his focus and enhancing job orbit for them received his government’s highest attention during the last five years. He said while one lakh educated youth of the State have been provided government jobs during this period, the process of enhancing of job market both in government and private sectors for Jammu and Kashmir youth is in full swing.
He said that without involving private players and big business houses in the industries, commerce and trade, the unemployment crisis cannot be addressed in a holistic and a comprehensive manner. “When I sometimes say that government sector alone cannot resolve the unemployment problem, I am often misreported and misunderstood. By driving this fact to home I only want to highlight the need of creating more and more befitting employment opportunities for youth of Jammu and Kashmir equally in corporate and entrepreneurship sectors, the real economy drivers in any society”, he said reposing faith in the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to be leaders in the private and corporate sectors if they choose their career in these disciplines.
“While my endeavour to provide government jobs to youth will go on, my efforts to enhance their opportunities in private sector will also continue”, he said and referred to the UDAAN and Himayat Schemes introduced specially for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to provide them opportunity to be important part in the trade, business and industry of the Country. He said that these initiatives are available only to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and they should take fullest advantage of these.
Congratulating the youth who have been selected and handed over placement letters by the Canara Bank, Omar Abdullah advised them to be role models for others and prove their calibre and mettle so that other Nationalized Banks, Public Sector Undertakings and Corporate India will follow the Canara Bank to recruit qualified youth of Jammu and Kashmir in their concerns. He said there has been delink between the State and the corporate sector for over two decades due to the militancy and disturbances. He said his government has concentrated on rebuilding the ties of Corporate India with the Universities, Colleges and the youth of the State so that required results of providing opportunities of gainful employment to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir are realized.
Describing the handing over of training-cum placement orders to the 300 youth selected under UDAAN as a new year gift, the Chief Minister wished them and the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the Country very happy new year and prayed for peace, development and prosperity in the State and the Country.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of Canara Bank, R. K. Dubey lauded the efforts of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah focused on the holistic development of youth and said that Canara Bank will provide three months training to the selected 300 youth and place them in various capacities of officers and clerks in the Bank after completion of their trainings. He said the officer will receive Rs. 5.79 lakh salary per annum while the salary of the clerk will be of the order of Rs. 2.67 lakh yearly.
Dubey said that Canara Bank proposes to set up 38 Bank Branches in the State during the next year which will be managed by the Managers from the newly recruited personnel after they get the promotion to the status of Manager within two to three years. “You have a great opportunity to grow in Canara Bank as there are numerous places and posts vacant at higher levels awaiting you”, he said and added that he has himself risen to the position of Chairman and Managing Director of Canara Bank from the post of a Probationary Officer.
Dubey said that presently Canara Bank has more than 4500 Branches across the Country besides Business Units outside the Country. He said this number is likely to increase to 6000 during the next year. He welcomed the newly selected youth under UDAAN in the family of Canara Bank and expressed the hope that other Banks will also follow the Canara Bank in recruiting qualified youth from the State.
Present on the occasion were Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, Principal Secretary Planning and Development, B. R. Sharma, Union Joint Secretary, R. Srivatsava, senior officers of NSDM, Canara Bank and Mission Director UDAAN, Jhangir Hashmi.
Mission Director UDAAN in his opening remarks said that 59000 youth of Jammu and Kashmir are being trained and placed in as many as 42 private organizations during the next five years for which required MoUs have been signed by concerned parties. He said as many as 2385 youth are presently under training with 30 private partners in the Country.
