Prof. Bamezai as the new VC of Mata Vaishno Devi University

 Jammu,January 10 (Vijay Kumar) The Governor,  N. N. Vohra, who is also the Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, has appointed an eminent Scientist, Prof. R. N. K. Bamezai, as the new Vice Chancellor of the University. Prof. Bamezai, a Doctorate in Human Genetics from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, is currently working as the Professor of Genetics and Director, National Centre of Applied Genetics, School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

 

           Prof. Bamezai is a Member of the International Association of Environmental Mutagen Societies and Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences (FNASc), National Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS) and International Medical Sciences Academy (FIMSA). He is credited with more than 29 years’ experience of teaching and guiding research in various Universities in the country and has trained more than 300 researchers in the past seven years in the area of Human Genetics and Genomics. He has also lectured at various Universities abroad and authored nearly a hundred research papers published in eminent journals within and outside the country. Prof. Bamezai is currently a member of several important UGC Committees and Executive Councils of Pondicherry University and Cultural University of Jharkhand. Besides, he was also been a member of the Executive Council, Academic Council and Court of the Jawaharlal Nehru University. 

 Vohra appointed Prof. Bamezai from among a panel recommended by the Search Committee headed by the eminent Scientist, Prof. Goverdhan Mehta, National Research Professor, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and comprising Prof. S. G. Dhande, Director, IIT, Kanpur, Prof. Jai Rup Singh, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, and Prof. P.T. Chande, Vice Chancellor, Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Nagpur.

Prof. Bamezai is expected to take over his new assignment before the end of January 2010.
