Preseident John Evans Atta Mills has already spent 100 days in office as the president of Ghana. To commemorate this, he has met senior editors of the media to give some evaluations about his performance so far.
To him, the government has fulfilled all the promises it made concerning the period and has scored high marks. He answered questions from those present.
In the street there is the feeling that things are slow. Even the former president under whom he served as vice complained publicly about certain decisions which he took and did not take. Former President Rawlings accused the government of being slow especially in dealing with operatives of the former government who were implicated in various ways.
The opposition and its supporters have been on neck of President Mills and his government with demands that seems to suggest that he should fulfil all his promises in these 100 days.
In an apparent reaction President Mills reminds the whole nation that 100 days is not the four-year term he has to spend in office.
However, very objective commentators have been commending the president for the rapidity with which he was able to form his government and set the whole govermental machinery into operation.
One problem he has to takle will be the economy which has been giving some negetative signals due to international realities and some domestic problems which obviously could be traced to the former government: the national currency has lost some value, fuel prices have gone slightly up, inflation has been going up, but workers’,especially public setor, incomes remain unchaged.
But he promised that his goverment will make every effort to address such problems so that the people will be able to enjoy the change he promised them during his campaign.
