Jammu, February 27 (Scoop News) – A meeting of some prominent senior citizens of Jammu convened by RK Chadha President Citizens Forum held in Jammu today resolved to launch a movement for amendment in the Municipal Corporation Act to make the Municipal Corporations of Jammu and Srinagar cities fully empowered and real representative bodies of the citizens.
The meeting demanded that the powers should be vested with the Mayor and members of the corporation which are presently vested with the commissioners of the corporations who are the nominees of the Government. It was also demanded that the mayor should be elected directly by the electorates in the cities and their term should be for full five years of the term of corporations.
Through another resolution the meeting appealed to all the political parties to form consensus that election to the municipal corporations, municipal councils, municipal committees and other local bodies should be held on non party basis, so that persons with integrity and acumen in different fields get elected to these bodies, to work for the development and welfare of the cities and towns.
It was further resolved that a seminar to highlight these issues be organized under the banners of Citizens Forum in the near future.

Chief Engineer, SK Gupta Retd. Chief Engineer, SIH Khursheed Kazmi Retd. Conservator of Forests, Mohd. Ayub Khan Retd. Secretary J&K School Board of Education, Parag Sharma Advocate and Kewal Mahajan a prominent Businessman.
