Jammu, February 09(Scoop News) – Indian Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad today observed that languages are the best medium to forge unity among the people belonging to various religions.
Speaking at a day-long Kashmiri Conference held here today, Azad said, “we must endeavour for promoting Kashmiri language, alongside other languages, in a big way.
The Conference was organized by Adbi-Markaz, Kaaz, in collaboration with the Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, at Ahbhinav Theatre. The Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather, presided over the function.
Among others present on the occasion included Minister for R&B, G M Saroori, CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammed Yousf Tarigami, MLA Sangrama, Basharat Bukhari, Former Director General Cultural Academy and MLC, Mohammed Yousf Taing, noted poet and Jnanpith Awardee, , Prof Rehman Rahi and Secretary Education, G A Pir.
Azad congratulated the Adabi Markaz Kaaz, especially its President, Aziz Hajni and Secretary General, Dr Syed Shujat Bukhari besides the Cultural Academy for organizing the Conference.
Eulogizing India for its unique diversity and Jammu and Kashmir for its linguistic plurality, Azad said Kashmiri is being spoken in nine out of ten districts of the Jammu region. “This is what makes it imperative to promote Kashmiri in educational and literary institutions of Jammu as well”, he maintained.
In his presidential address, Abdul Rahim Rather reminded the literary associations of their role in promoting various languages as these reflected their identity. He complimented Adbi Markaz Kaaz for promoting Kashmiri language. “It is due to the endeavours of Adabi Markaz Kaaz that the former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah introduced Kashmiri at the school level”, he said adding that he will work for this language single-mindedly.
The Finance Minister also complimented Cultural Academy for promoting various languages in the State.
