After Election Day on November 4, Proposition 8 was passed in California. Proposition 8 calls for a state constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. This had popped up when same-sex marriage was legalized back in June. Proponents and opponents of Proposition 8 each poured in millions of dollars into the campaign. This turned Proposition 8 into California’s costliest campaign.
Election Day is over and Proposition 8 was passed. However it is not over. It does not look over by a long shot. So far, it looks that this battle could shift to New York and Connecticut. Connecticut has already finalized the legality of same-sex marriage recently.
In California, the fallout and the backlash are not pretty. Opponents of Proposition 8 have rapidly increased. They are growing by the numbers. So far, they are directing their anger towards proponents of Proposition 8.
A blacklist is now in circulation with names of individuals and businesses that donated to the “Yes on 8” campaign. The blacklist is available for viewing on AntiGayBlacklist.com.
So far, one of the supporters of Proposition 8 has stepped forward. Chris Li gave $1,000 to the Yes on 8 Campaign. Now, he was incredibly shocked. Li was disgusted at the blacklist.
He said: “This sort of blacklist should only appear in communist countries, should not be found in the United States.”
Opponents of same-sex marriage have created their own blacklist targeting those that voted against Proposition 8.
Molly McKay of Marriage Equality USA voiced her concern. She explains her understanding of the anger and frustration. But, she says that both sides need to talk. To McKay, blacklisting on both sides of the spectrum only generates hatred and more hatred.
This is proof that the fallout is getting very intense.
