In the state of California, the issue of gay marriage has become quite a hot topic. There has been a fierce campaign for and against Proposition 8. One can ask: What is Proposition 8?
Proposition 8 is a law proposed by those against gay marriage. If that becomes law, Proposition 8 will be a state constitution that bans gay marriage in the state of California.
However, gay marriage has been legalized in California back in June.
So far, there are plenty in California that are not happy with gay marriage being legal. As a result, there have been much cash being poured into the campaign for Proposition 8. In short, both proponents and opponents of Proposition 8 are extremely passionate about the issue. The amount of money poured into the campaign is just proof.
There are plenty that want to see gay marriage remain legalized in California. At the same time, there are plenty that want to see a constitutional ban on it.
However, it looks that gay marriage is one of the hottest domestic social issues this year.
Not long ago, the Connecticut Supreme Court had given the ruling that gay marriages were legal. However, the ruling only gives same-sex couples state recognition and benefits.
On a much higher level, there is an internal disagreement within the campaign for GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona. Over the weekend, McCain’s VP running-mate Alaska Governor Palin spoke out about gay marriage during in interview with David Brody of the Christian Broadcast Network (CBN).
So far, Palin wants a federal ban on gay marriage. McCain strongly opposes it and feels that it should be left to the states. In short, this is a hot social topic that both McCain and Palin disagree on.
In regards to Proposition 8 that is up for voting in California, perhaps this is an omen of things to come.
