Shopkeepers strongly condemned high-handedness of Jammu
police for allegedly harassing workers of Canon Bar and Restaurant
unwarrantedly, situated at Bikram Chowk of Jammu city. Raising slogans against
Jammu police and displaying placards, President Ashu and Chairman Teerth Ram
Sharma termed police attitude as doctorial and sought action against erring
police personnel.
Giving details of incident Manager Canon Bar and Restaurant
Rajiv said that two waiters were booked after they approached Ware House police
post with a complaint against two inebriated customers. He added that two
youth, who claimed to be doctors, came bar at Ware House at about 1 pm, after becoming
under the influence of liquor started talking loudly and shifting themselves
from one table to other, causing inconvenience to other customers, Rajiv. He
added that when some customers complained against them at about 5 pm, staff
requested them to behave properly and not shift from one table to other. On this they started manhandling waiters on
the pretext that being doctors they will not harm waiters. It led to heated
exchanges between two sides.
However, on presenting bill of Rs 449, two drunkards went
out of bar and spoke to someone on their cell phone. They were soon joined by
seven to eight more youth. Sensing trouble, one of the waiters went to nearby
Ware House police post with a complaint against two drunken customers. Bar
Manager said that cops at police post told waiter that he would not perform his
lawful duty because the bar manager had not obliged him few days back. He said
even as two drunken youth and their accomplices showered choicest abuses on
them, police picked up Mohan and Rinku, both waiters, for no fault of theirs. No
action was taken against guilty customers and they were allowed to leave the
spot. Rajiv said that it was a typical case of police booking complainant and
freeing accused. He urged higher police officers to intervene in matter and do justice.
