Protesting Myanmar Buddhist Monks Stay Silent on the Third Day

Young Buddhist monks leading a protest against Thein Sein government stay silent on the third day. They decided  to go back to a monastery where one of them from Mandalay had lived before but the exact location is still unknown. They have not had any response from the government yet , maybe, as the President U Thein Sein is attending an ASEAN conference in Indonesia.

On the second day, they organized a big audience of nearly 300 monks and people in the compound of  the Old Masoyein Monastery and continued demanding to free all political prisoners in Myanmar, to stop civil war and to allow freedomof expression. Mainly they targeted to demand for peace. It took exactly one hour from 1 to 2 in the afternoon for talking about peace and demanding what they wanted. Closing the programme they said prayers for political prisoners and recited Metta Sutra for sharing loving kindness with all beings.

Elderly monks were confused to realize what they were doing and some political interference seemed to occur during ongoing proccess of that campaign. As a result, they were driven out off the Old Masoyein Monastery after press meeting which followed their talks. A mini bus owned by government and light truck took those protesting monks and their luggages including audio equipments and other materials. They had to stay a night in a monastery called Yaytaw which is located in southern part of the Mahamuni Buddha Image.

On the third day, there is no talk and activity in Mandalay. Instead it is heard that they are called again by local senior monks to the Old Masoyein Monastery where there is the headquarter of division level Buddhist monks. Local people are still paying attention to them.
