PESHAWAR, Mar 05:- Punjab University took berth into the final after defeating University Science and Technology Bannu in the first semi-final played at Hostel No. 2 ground on Thursday.
Winning the toss, Punjab University decided to bat first by scoring 176 runs for the loss of seven wickets after playing 30 overs. Muhammad Usman was the pick-of-the-pack who smashed 60 runs not out with five boundaries and two sixes, Najaf Latif made 46 runs with three boundaries, Raheel Bhatti scored 18 runs.
For Bannu University Azaz Khan took three wickets with his excellent bowling, Fahim took two wickets, Shahzeb got two wickets.
In reply, University of Science and Technology Bannu bowled out for 80 runs after playing 26.3 overs of the allotted 30 overs. Farhad Ashfaq (20) with two boundaries, Fawad Ali (17) were the leading scorers.
For Punjab University, the last time winner of the event, Rizwan Ahmad took three wickets, Amir Hamza claimed two wickets, Muhammad Bilal got two wickets while Wahid and Imran got one wicket each.
Before the semi-final match Bannu also defeated University of Malakand by six wickets as Malakand made 105 runs in 24.3 overs for the loss of all wickets and Bannu chased the target for the loss of four wickets in 13.3 overs. It was the only quarter-final match left behind because of the rain and thus the Championship postponed whereas total 16 qualified teams took part.
Sajjad Khan and Hashmat Khan supervised the match while Khyal Muhammad acted as scorer.
