Public officials feel like leeches

It will take a long time before politicians and government officials in the Philippines will ever learn to adopt the "delicadeza" system.

With the leech-like attitude of government officials holding juicy positions, who are linked to corruption and scandals, perhaps, Congress must pass a law that requires government officials involved in illegal activities to be removed by force, if they will not step down.

Why not? Because in other countries, government officials linked to corruption don’t think twice before they quit. In Japan, they commit suicide because of shame. In the Philippines, it would be impossible to happen. In fact, many are still in the active public service even if they are facing corruption cases in the Office Ombudsman or the courts.

I just don’t understand why these officials are so callous and insensitive. If I’m not mistaken, most of them hold advanced degrees, why fear? Anytime, they can land juicy jobs in the private sector. Why stick in the government, when it doesn’t give so much in terms of salaries? It is because many of them value more their juicy positions than their faces and dignity.
