Pulwama, May 29 (Scoop News) – Additional Deputy Commissioner(ADC) Pulwama Muneer ul Islam reviewed the campaign for making all public places of the District Smoke free. The meeting was held with District Tobacco Control Monitoring Committee Pulwama and representatives of JK Voluntary Health Association (JKVHA) Srinagar.
ADC emphasized on District level functionaries of various Sectoral offices for making all public places smoke-free and instructed Chief Medical Officer Pulwama Dr. Gh. Hussain, Chief Education Officer Pulwama Farooq Ahmad and Dy. S.P. Pulwama Mashkoor Ahmad to take strict measures in this direction.
He appreciated the role of JKVHA for having taken lead role in the District for creating awareness about the hazards of smoking and Gutka. He assured full cooperation to A.M.Mir (IAS Retd.) Executive Director JKVHA and his team for achieving the objective of making Pulwama a smoke free District.
ADC informed that a review meeting to assess the progress would be held on 23rd of each month. ARTO Pulwama Wajahat Qayoom, Food Safety Officer Pulwama Khursheed Ahmad and District Coordinator JKVHA Waseem Ahmad Sheikh also participated in the meeting. Food Safety Officer Kashmir Shabir Ahmad Lone gave a power point presentation about enforcement mechanism for implementation of the Tobacco Law. A.M.Mir (IAS Retd.), Executive Director JKVHA gave broad details about the work done by their organization in J&K to make public places smoke free.
The participating officers were requested to monitor implementation of section 5 of COTPA which bans advertisement and promotion of tobacco products and to evolve a system of incorporating violations of tobacco Act in the monthly crime review report of SHOs in the District. Detailed guidelines published by JKVHA were also given to all the participating officers.
