Are not church clergy, be they Ministers men of the cloth, Priests, and/or especially Pastors, supposed to be honest with their parishioners, their flock especially when delivering a homily or sermon from the pulpit?
Is it their obligation to spread the “Party-line doctrine” of whatever church they represent, be it Catholic, Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, or whatever?
Or,
Is it their obligation as congregational leaders men of the cloth and men of God, to deliver God’s Truth, God’s Holy Words to their parishioners, their congregation, who are in truth God’s children, God’s people?
I pose these questions because this past Sunday, November 3, 2013, I was witness to what I believe to be definitely blasphemous doctrine and possibly hypocritical unscriptural doctrine, being orated presented by the “Pastor” of this church.
I attended church service mass at: Saint Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Thornhill, Ontario. The Pastor there is one Fr. Mario Salvadori. The title “Father” in itself is contrary to Holy Scripture, but that is another topic for discussion at a later time.
Because of Sunday’s proximity to two Catholic special days of celebration known as “All Souls Day”, and “All Saints Day” Novembers 1st. and 2nd. Father Mario decided to deliver his Sunday Homily Sermon on defending the Catholic church’s position on a place the church calls “Purgatory” a place that the Catholic Church believes exists where people who have what the church calls “Venial sins” which are supposedly minor sins like a little “White lie” are compelled to stay, awaiting Jesus to come down and forgive them.
I have no idea how the Catholic church scripturally formed the premise of a “Venial sin” but apparently according to the Catholic church there are sins that are mortal and sins that are lesser. I have always believed that a sin is a sin and that God detests all sin regardless.
I have also further always believed that an infant a child, before they are taught right from wrong and can understand the difference, that child if it dies is sin free except for the sin of Adam which we all carry, just as we all have genes, and DNA.
I believe that any person delivering a message from God, a message from the pulpit, homily sermon to a congregation ethically has an obligation to deliver such a message from a biblically scripturally sound basis, but this was not the case.
I approached Brother Mario after service and explained my position of being opposed to such a teaching. I used JOHN: 3: 16-18; JOHN: 8: 15; and JOHN: 5: 24; to substantiate my point my position. I could have just as easily also used JOHN: 14: 6; but I figured that the three quotes were plenty to backup my position.
What was even more shocking about this short conversation was that even though this priest is constantly telling the congregation to read the Holy Bible, I had to explain my references from JOHN to him because he had no clue what they were or what they were in reference to.
