Putin meets leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine, European Commission to discuss a peaceful end to the bloody war in Ukraine – notably absent from the meeting was the United States

German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, and President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy meet with Putin to discuss the situation in the Ukraine. Notably absent from meeting was the United States.

On October 17, 2014 a critically important meeting was held. President Vladimir Putin met in Milan with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President of France Francois Hollande to discuss the worsening conflict in the Ukraine

The four leaders discussed peaceful solutions to the bloody war in southeast Ukraine and the issue of Russian gas supplies to Europe via Ukrainian territory.

The situation in Ukraine was the main subject of discussion earlier at a working breakfast hosted by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

Oddly absent from the meeting to work for peace was the United States?

Note: There is an effort in the US to arm Ukraine with lethal aid. This would include such things as armaments, ammunition and bombs.

Question: Since when is arming one side or another in a bloody civil war ever a good idea?
