On December 20, 2014 Vladimir Putin spoke at a gala evening dedicated to the Day of state security bodies. The President congratulated the employees and veterans of the Russian special services with their professional holiday.
VLADIMIR PUTIN: “Good afternoon, dear comrades, dear veterans!
I congratulate you on the Day of the employee of the security forces, with a holiday!
Today we honor those who guard the national interests of the Russian Federation, (their aim is) to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, constitutional order and security of our citizens.
This service requires special qualities, special temperament, solid faith in their country, in the righteousness and justice of their cause, then, with the fate of the Motherland above all – so it was really has and always been in the history of the security forces.History of Secret service is indeed rich in bright feats and legendary names. In Russia respects to all the generations of people who took care of our country from external and internal threats, worship the heroism and fortitude of our veterans.
In the coming year we will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. In the defeat of the enemy – the security forces, counter-intelligence, reconnaissance, border guards have made an invaluable contribution.Our country had to go through the “cold war”, and through direct aggression of international terrorism. And always, security officials were, so to speak, on the front lines, with honor their duty they served. And in our recent history, we know it well. I will never forget the guys who sacrificed their lives for the country to feel safe in the years when international terrorism really “were pressing” so that it seemed it would never end.
I am sure the traditions that brought members of the security together will be reliable, valid reference point for those who are in the ranks. And who in the future will choose to undertake this honorable profession – a profession to protect its people?Dear comrades!Today depends on each individual lot and for utmost efficiency, quality of work of the security the highest requirements.
The situation in the world is far from stable: a growing number of threats and risks to international law are ignored. In the course are all means against us: and blackmail and provocations, and economic and information pressure, the rise of radical elements, nationalist groups; attempts to destabilize the internal situation…
Frankly those who claim that Russia should pay dearly for its independent position, because of its support of compatriots for the Crimea and Sevastopol, – sometimes it seems simply for the fact that we exist.It is obvious that no one will ever intimidate us, contain or isolate Russia. Attempts are always carried out in this regard however, over the centuries. I have already talked about this in public, but in the twentieth century, many times: in the 20s and 40s and later. In all those cases (or situations) nothing happened, and now it will not work either. At the same time we must be prepared to go through certain difficulties and always give an adequate response to any threats to our sovereignty, stability and unity of our society.
In this regard, I note once again the importance of our hard and uncompromising struggle we have against terrorism and extremism. This year, thanks to your resolute actions prevented over 60 terrorist crimes, thwarted 8 attacks, as well suppressed the activity of 46 international terrorist and extremist groups.
It is necessary to further improve the effectiveness of our preventive work. Strengthen cooperation with civil society, including in combating extremism, nationalism and xenophobia.Limiting concentration and ability to mobilize required by security divisions. The activity of (enemy) foreign intelligence agencies, “working” inside Russia is growing. It is a real threat. Thus, only through counterintelligence this year revealed more than 230 staff employees and agents of foreign intelligence services (helping the cause).
In terms of our priorities – the most serious attention should be paid to the protection of state borders, ensuring stable operation of government, protecting the economic interests of Russia.There are of course a wide range of problems in the Foreign Intelligence Service. Especially in the field of prediction and analysis of potential risks and threats, as well as in the evaluation of the nature and probable development of key international events.
I note however the tireless work of employees FSO. First of all, while ensuring the safety of the participants and guests of the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Sochi, and other important major events.Dear friends!I want to thank all of you and your colleagues for your honest and conscientious work.
