President Gloria Arroyo’s term will end in 2010 and yet her presidency is still mired in controversies. Instead of trying to recover her lost credibility, her remaining three years in office looks like in a destructive mode. Of late, controversies keep on hounding the government because the chief executive has lost its control over the people that she knows could help her administration. But in reality, this people she trusted most are of shady characters that are now running the show and controlling the system of things. The unabated case of graft and corruption in high places is just one of the issues that the government of PGMA doesn’t want to eliminate because her very controversial friends in her inner circle are benefiting on it. The powers that be were said to be in a hurry to enriching themselves because 2010 is fast approaching. There’s no turning back for these people and amassing wealth is what they’re busying now. For one, smuggling of luxury vehicles and agricultural and other products coming from China brings fortune to the vultures in government. Dubious or one sided contracts detrimental to the government are always taken into consideration by officials looking for fat commissions. Other controversies that linger around in government are continuing without let-up. And, since the government is heaving its last hurrah by minding their own self interest, the main problems that besetting the country like poverty, social and moral degradation, the economic and political encumbrances were totally neglected. No wonder that the Philippines will remain the sick man of Asia and even persist in the years or decades to come.
R.P. still the sick man of Asia
