DARO,SARAWAK,MALAYSIA:friday;
Every housing areas in Malaysia will soon be compelled to install water tanks in every house.
Like any good ideas in Malaysia it will need persistent enforcement by officials. Plans are afoot to present a Bill in our parliament to ensure that all property developers abide by the requirement.
Lately our Minister for Housing and Local Government, Ong Ka Ting, told reporters that experts are being tasked with examining existing laws that may be used to enforce the idea.
The Housing Ministry said that there are pragmatic reasons behind such plans. The harvesting of rainwater will lessen the dependence on treated water especially in cities like Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Just how is this possible? The man in the street that we asked at random, told us that rainwater can be used for watering gardens, washing vehicles and for flushing our toilets. Besides, rainwater if efficiently harvested and stored will ease the Flood Mitigation system in our major towns. Thus, flash flood in many areas will be efficiently checked.
There are concerns though among our population. Among the issues raised will be the relax attitude of many Malaysian. This ignorant attitude will easily result in the incidence of denggue fever and even malaria.
With the pressure on treated water checked, millions of Ringgit will be saved. The many problems concerning treated water such as low pressure and low supply can be managed properly.
