Vakil said that it was the dream of late Shri Rajiv Gandhi to see Jammu & Kashmir prosper on the path of progress and development. He said the best way to pay homage to the great leader is to make efforts to make the State and the Country ever strong and powerful. It was the late Shri Rajiv Gandhi who encouraged the youth and engaged them in nation building process. For this, Shri Rajiv Gandhi lowered the age for voting right from 21 to 18 years, added Vakil.
He further said that late Rajiv Gandhi was a staunch believer of non-violence but he himself became the victim of enemies of peace and was martyred while struggling to uphold the peace, integrity and harmony in the country. He asserted that Rajiv Gandhi who stood for secularism and communal harmony belongs to a national party where there is no place for any communal elements that are bent upon dividing the society on the basis of creed, color and caste. Vakil said we all should work for maintaining peace and tranquility and thwart the nefarious designs of those who are bent upon to disrupt the peace in the State
On this occasion, Vakil also paid rich tributes to Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone on their death anniversary. He said that Jammu & Kashmir State has lost two important leaders who would have played important role in restoring peace in the valley and definitely would have contributed and helped in resolving Kashmir issue if they would have been with us today.
