Jammu,September 1 (Scoop News) – The Golden Jubilee of 19th battalion the Rajputana Rifles is being celebrated from Friday to Sunday at Jammu region. On the occasion, the Colonel of the Rajputana Rifles Regiment and GOC-in-C, Northern Command Lt Gen KT Parnaik, laid a wreath at the war memorial today. The Jubilee was celebrated with the customary festivities, all serving and retired officers, JCOs and Jawans of the battalion and senior officers from the higher formation who were came from various places to attended the celebration.
On arrival, the General Officer was received by Col Deepak Pati, the Commanding Officer of the unit. A special guard of honour was given to the General Officer. Sharanjali parade was also held, and wreaths were laid to pay homage to the war heroes of the battalion. A special Sainik Sammelan were addressed and the troops of the battalion were congratulated by the Colonel of the Rajputana Rifles for completing 50 years of glorious service and sacrifice towards nation. He also called upon all ranks to uphold the high traditions of the battalion.
The unit was raised on 01 Sep 1962 at Rajputana Rifles Regimental Centre Delhi Cantonment by Lt Col SP Kutky. The unit took part in 1971 Indo-Pak war. During its deployment in J&K, the Battalion gave an excellent account of its professionalism while safe guarding the Line of Control.
The Army postal service commemorates the occasion by issuing a special cover. The Jubilee celebration was marked by release of the first day cover of the battalion by the General Officer. At the end of the function two officers, one JCO and three jawans were given GOC-in-C Commendation Badges by the Army Commander.
The function started off with a ladies get together organized at the Family Welfare Centre and veer naris were honoured with presenting shawls. This was followed by pagal gymkhana, which proved to be resounding success and got the battalion in festive mood. A barakhana was organised to mark the occasion and to facilitate interaction among the serving soldiers and the visiting Ex- servicemen.
The Batallion celebrates 50 years of its raising, a saga of valour, glory, devotion and selfless service in the line of duty to the nation. The Battalion remains resolute in keeping in tune with its Regimental Motto “ Veer Bhogya Vasundhara”.
