Kuching,Malaysia:
"The lst election was the best ever. It was also the cleanest,"Election Commission Chairman, Tan Sri Rashid said recently.
Every Elections in Malaysia was run by The Election Commission. Their members were Senior Officials, appointed by none oher than the King but recommended by the Prime Minister.
For the past two General Elections, this body was repeatedly accused by members of the Opposition for being both corrupt and prejudiced. Even some Non-Government Organisation accused them of favouring the National front’s candidates.
These accusations were noticeably loud during the run-up to the dissolution of the parliament. Rashid said that those who made the accusations were silent when the results sided with them.
‘This showes that their accusations were all false," he added.
Rashid was one of the longest serving member of the commission. Protests against him during his tenure were frequent. Just two days before the nomination date, his house was smeared with red paint. Apparently the act was a protest against the cancellation of a plan to use black ink to identify those who have voted on polling day.
The Election Commission was tipped-off by the Police that large amount of black ink has been smuggled into the country. Had they carry out the plan to use the black ink then chaos will surely happen
Fortunately this were the few unwanted incidents marking this election.
