This was stated at a high level meeting held here today to review pace of winter stocking of essential commodities, building material and departmental supplies in Leh and Kargil districts.
The Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, Abdul Rahim Rather presided.
The Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Ringzin Jora was also present.
The meeting among concerned officers of the Leh and Kargil districts was also attended by the Commissioner Secretary Forests, Shantmanu, Transport Commissioner, Dr. Syed Fazal-ullah, IGP Traffic, H.K. Lohia, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Tserwing Angchok, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, M.Raju, Chief Engineer, PDD, Muzzafar Mattoo, Director, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, A.W.Tak, General Manager FCI, Rajesh Kumar, Manager SAIL, Alyas Ahad, M.D.SRTC, J.S.Tandon and Managing Director, J&K Cements, Mushtaq Ahmad.
The meeting was assured by the concerned officers that fertilizer stocking in both the districts shall be completed within next week whereas required steel quantity shall be dumped within 10 days. The SRTC would deploy adequate number of trucks ( 40 trucks per day) to carry additional quantity of cement up to the twin districts. The MD J&K Cements Ltd. has assured to meet the additional demand of cement.
It was decided in the meeting that in view of additional requirement of High Speed Diesel to run newly installed 8.5 MW Capacity D.G. Set in Leh for augmenting electric supply in the district, the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who is also incharge Planning & Development would be requested to provide additional funds to the tune of 15 crore. The Kargil District shall also get its share for this purpose. The Commissioner/Secretary Forests, informed that about 70000 cft of timber including 15000 cft. in Kargil is available for distribution in the twin districts.
Speaking on the occasion, Rather asked the concerned departments to fulfill commitments with regard to winter stockings in Leh & Kargil districts. He said defaulters on this account shall have to face stringent action from the Government. He directed the office of Registrar Cooperatives to expedite stocking of fertilizers in both the District as early as possible. He also asked the representatives of IOC and HP to build adequate stocks of domestic as well as Commercial Gas in the twin districts.
