Ray Boltz, Gospel Singer, Comes Out As Gay

Ray Boltz, a christian and gospel musician who has sold millions of albums, publicly came out of the closet in an interview today.

Ray Boltz, who was once married and has four children, says that he has been struggling with his sexuality since childhood. He described how he dealt with hiding his sexual identity for his entire adult life: "I’d denied it ever since I was a kid. I became a Christian, I thought that was some way to deal with this and I prayed hard and tried for 30-some ears and then, at the end, I was just going ‘I’m still gay. I know I am.’"

Ray Boltz says that he came out to his family a few years ago and that they have all been supportive, including his wife. The day he told his family was the same day that the devastating tsunami struck the Indian Ocean; the day has a lot of meaning to the Boltz family, Ray says.

Ray Boltz says that publicly coming out of the closet will close a chapter of darkness in his life. Hopefully his fans will not desert him and support his future musical endeavors.

Here is another GroundReport article about coming out of the closet.

Joe DeFranceschi: I am a journalist and former magazine editor currently based in New York City. Hopefully GroundReport will give me an outlet to write about the stories that are largely ignored in traditional media.
