Reactive Arthritis Treatment

Arthritis is a disease that includes over 100 types of arthritis, associated rheumatic conditions and different symptoms depending of the arthritis causes and evolution.It is recommended an early diagnosis established by a rheumatologist, in order to slow down the arthritis effects.

Formerly Reiter Syndrome, known as the reactive arthritis, is a chronic form of arthritis, manifested throw the inflammation of joints and eyes, eyes, mouth, skin, kidneys, heart, and lungs, causing conjunctivitis and the inflammation of the genital, urinary, or gastrointestinal systems, caused by the presence of bacterial infections in the genital, urinary, or gastrointestinal systems.Reactive arthritis is a systemic rheumatic disease, It is often associaed with other diseases, such as psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, collectively referred to as "spondyloarthropathies”.

Several reactive arthritis treatments have been developed during the time and the resulted options are available in multiple directions, such as medication options, NSAIDs, Analgesics( Painkillers), Corticosteroids, DMARDs, biologic drugs, alternative treatments, surgical options.

Some arthritis treatments are being helpful, although there is no cure for reactive arthritis:

-Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) are a common solution for the patients that suffer of reactive arthritis, by reducing the joint infflammation. NSAIDs include medication such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Indomethacin and Tolmetin. The use of nonsteroidal drugs for a long term can cause serious side effects;

-Analgesics are used as painkillers, being classified in two main categories, non-narcotics and narcotics.They suppress the signals of the pain to the brain. Narcotic analgesics, such as morphine, oxycodone, and the synthetic opioid narcotics are dangerous and cause addiction.

-Corticosteroid Shots injections/ glucocorticoids are very powerful drugs that are applied directly into the affected joint are helpful against arthritis severe joint inflammation by blocking the production allergic substances.

-Topical Corticosteroids are incorporated into medical lotions in order to be applied on the affected area, as they reduce the pain.

-Antibiotics are a good treatment against bacterial infections associated with reactive arthritis.

-Immunosuppressives / DMARDs proved to be efficient against reactive arthritis effects.

Biologic Drugs improve the immune system functions, interfering with arthritis inflammatory activity.

The exercises, such as back exercise for reactive arthritis, stretching, aquatic exercises are considered an additional solution along with medication, building up the muscles around the affected joint.
