Jammu, December 13, (Scoop News)- While condemning the killing of a Sarpanch in Sopur area of Baranmullah district of Kashmir valley on Friday night, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference Chairman, Shafiq Mir has said that militants and other antidemocratic forces must read the writings on wall and shun the path of violence against the people of the state having opposite ideology . In his reaction, Shafiq Mir who heads the Panchayat members body in the state of Jammu and Kashmir said that the militants got frustrated after the ongoing successful assembly elections in the state and they have started targeting the basic pillars of democracy in the state . It is pertinent to mention here that two Saarpanches have been killed in the state during the ongoing assembly elections . Earlier, a week ago, a Sarpanch namely Mohammad Sultan was killed in Shopian area South Kashmir and in latest incident one more Sarpanch namely Ghulam Mohammad Mir (62) has been killed allegedly by the militants during the ensuing night of Friday and Saturday. Before killing him, he was kidnapped from his house .
Taking the strong note of attacks on Panchayat leaders in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Shafiq Mir who is chairman of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference( apex body of Panchayat members) said that militants have started targeting the Panchayat leaders again in the state holding them responsible for the successful elections and mobilizing the people in election process . “ They (militants) should realize that the people of the state have rejected their ideology and have proven their full faith in the democratic system. We will not let them to kill our leaders any more we will raise a banner of revolt against them soon if they didn’t stop attacks on our leaders”, said Mir. He said the Panchayat leaders of the state are not protected persons and they have become soft target for the militants .
Holding the central government of India equally responsible for these killings, Shafiq Mir said that the present BJP government seems least concerned about the safety of Panchaayat leaders of the state of Jammu and Kashmir . Reminding the present home minister of India Mr. Rajnath Singh of his earlier stand, Mir said when he was in opposition and president of BJP he would speak about the security of Panchayat leaders in Jammu and Kashmir and even once he had written a letter to them PM of India Dr Manmohan Singh to provide the security to the Panchayat leaders of the state . But since he came to power and became the home minister of India he is silent. Mir has asked Mr Rajnath Singh to clear his stand on the issue . At least 12 Sarpanches have been killed in Jammu Kashmir in the past two years and nearly a dozen panchayat members have been left injured in various attacks .
