Although the Nepal government has already decided to sell off the Nepali embassy building based at the Kensington Palace Gardens, the Nepalis have stood against this decision. Ordinary people within Nepal have already opposed this government decision. The latest media reports in Nepal confirm that even Nepalis residing in England are against this government decision of selling the embassy.
Interacting with the Nepal government committee working to estimate the status and property value of the embassy building, Dr Krishna Adhikari of the Reading Nepali Society, Uttam Amatya of the Friends of Britain and Nepal, President of Yeti Nepali Association UK, Chiranjibi Dhakal of Center for Nepal Studies have unitedly voiced for the preservation of the historical embassy building set up in 1934. They expressed their opinion that the building, no matter how old it was, is a great cultural heritage to be preserved. They stressed that the government must change the idea of selling it for economic reasons.
These organizations and other ones active in Britain have even promised to contribute to the renovation and preservation of the Nepali embassy.
However, sources within Nepal says that some real estate brokers active both in Nepal and Britain have been trying their best to create an atmosphere to sell the embassy house for their high margin of commission.
