West Orange, N.J. – To raise awareness and support for military servicemen and women who lost a limb while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, 9-11 first responders from New York and New Jersey fire departments and their families, the Wounded Warrior Amputee Football Team (WWAFT), and legends from the New York Giants, New York Jets and other NFL teams will participate in a charity flag football game on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. As part of their ongoing mission to support the nation’s heroes, Reality Realty Professionals Virginia Heroes (www.ViriginiaHeroes.com), the number one Homes for Heroes affiliate brokerage in Va., D.C. and Md. and second in the nation, will be participating in the Super Bowl week event.
The WWAFT is composed of U.S. military service members living with disabilities after losing limbs while serving their country in various combat theaters. Joining Phil McConkey, Joe Klecko and Rocky Bleier will be NFL Hall-of-Famers Jack Youngblood and Anthony Munoz, Green Bay Packer legend Jerry Kramer, ESPN’s Tim Hasselbeck and more than 30 other former stars of the Giants, Jets and other NFL teams. Retired Giant Phil McConkey, retired Jet Joe Klecko and retired Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier are honorary captains for the game.
Having had the opportunity to support the WWAFT when they squared off against the Washington Redskins and NFL Alumni in Virginia last November, Reality Realty Professionals Virginia Heroes was thrilled when they were invited to participate in this WWAFT Super Bowl XLVIII event that combines hero awareness, philanthropy and community support.
“We’re incredibly humbled and blessed to be invited back to support our Amputee Warriors as the NFL kicks off Super Bowl media week,” explained Reality Realty Professionals Virginia Heroes Broker/Owner Samuel Cachola. “It is through events like this that both spirits and awareness are raised!” Cachola further amplified by explaining, “This not about money or the physical display. Events like this are about the spirit, healing, perseverance and new beginnings … fill their souls and you make them whole.”
They are going back to where it all started on September 11, 2001 – New York City. When the WWAFT takes the field against the first responders who answered the call that fateful day, the nation will be seeing more than a football game. This event is about the sacrifice made by those who answered the call, the perseverance it takes to go forward, and a nation that will be forever indebted.
As a member of the Board of Directors of Stafford Junction, which supports at-risk youth, Cachola will be able to support his local community by honoring two young men from Stafford Junction with the opportunity to join in the event. The Reality Realty team is using this opportunity to show the children from Stafford Junction that hard work, discipline, service and faith always pay off.
Cachola explained the value of exposing youth to this event, stating, “What happens on the battlefield is about protecting liberties and freedoms for the next generation. Well, on January 29 in Essex County, these warriors, first responders and NFL athletes will have a chance to see firsthand the positive impact they have on youth through their example of courage, perseverance and leadership both on the battlefield and the ‘gridiron’ of life.”
For Cachola and his team, this is a dream come true. They will get the opportunity to share Reality Realty Professionals’ vision of Caremenship™ and Real Estate Artistry while spreading awareness about the national Homes for Heroes program against the backdrop of Super Bowl XLVIII. Homes for Heroes creator Ruth Johnson built the nation’s leading hero homes savings program with a foundation based upon helping those who serve. This event will put Homes for Heroes center stage during Super Bowl media week, honoring the very men and women who touched Johnson’s heart and fueled her passion to make a difference in heroes’ lives, especially those most affected by 9/11.
