According to global news agencies, Uighur leader Rebia Kadeer, now in Tokyo, has labeled serious accusations on the Chinese government of disappearing 10,000 Uighurs overnight in the northwest Chinese province of Xinjiang. Many international news agencies have quoted the Associated Press that quoted Kadeer as saying, ““Where did they go?” “Were they all killed or sent somewhere? The Chinese government should disclose what happened to them.”
However, she did not provide any evidence or basis for the accusation. She is reported to have spoken in a press conference in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Kadeer, self-exiled in the United States of America, has been demanding independence for Uighurs in Xijiang. She has frequently referred to the Chinese suppression of Uighurs, who want independence from the Chinese rule.
But the Chinese government has accused her of operating Uighurs’ separatist movement from abroad. China has viewed the Uighurs’ violent protests as steps taken by anti-China forces.
Highlighted by global media following the deaths of about 200 in the racial violence in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, Kadeer in recent days has continuously raised the issue of human rights violations in the province.
Xinjiang went through the Urumqi bloodshed in the first week of July.
