Jammu, April 09 (Scoop News)-Assuring the people of laying a strong edifice for building institutions of good governance, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said his Government will take forward the ongoing process of reconciliation to firmly embed peace and prosperity in the State.
Mufti Sayeed was speaking during the concluding day of the Budget Session in the Legislative Assembly.
Describing the formation of the Coalition Government as a historic occasion that respected the mandate of the people of all the three regions, the Chief Minister said the BJP-PDP alliance has the political legitimacy to govern the State as it represents the aspirations of all the regions. He further said a congenial atmosphere in the State is a prerequisite to reap the benefits of a healthy democracy. “The people have suffered much due to turmoil that hit the State over two decades ago and to realize our goals in realizing J&K’s full potential, peace has to be given a chance,” he stated.
Favouring reconciliation with all the neighbours to bring in lasting peace in the region, Mufti Sayeed said his earlier Government in 2005 took some historic steps that included opening of traditional routes like Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawlakote roads. He said the bonhomie between India and Pakistan was again evident recently during the rescue of fellow countrymen trapped in Yemen.
Referring to the devastation caused by the September 2014 floods, the Chief Minister said the people who lost everything shall be adequately compensated. He said the small-time traders and destitute, who lacked insurance cover, shall be provided financial assistance from April 15, enabling them to restart their lives afresh.
The Chief Minister also reiterated the resolve of the Government to facilitate the return of Kashmiri Pandits so that they are reintegrated into the social milieu of Kashmir. For this, Mufti Sayeed said, a congenial atmosphere has to be created.
Thanking all the members of the Legislative Assembly, especially youngsters and first-timers, for raising important discussions during the proceedings of the House, the Chief Minister assured them of all financial support in effectively taking care of the developmental needs of their respective constituencies. He said he has flagged the priorities of all the members which would be sorted out shortly.
