Recruitment Associates believes that the jobs market in the US will almost certainly deteriorate during 2015.
Recruitment Associates, the sales, finance and IT specialist recruitment practice has told candidates that it is “almost certain” that the jobs market in the US will stall and contract in 2015. The stark prediction was made in the company’s end of year newsletter and according to Todd Killeon, Chief Account Executive at Recruitment Associates, there is little the Federal government or the US Federal Reserve can do to prevent it.
“What we have is a clear example of ‘hopium’ driving sentiment when the truth is that many companies that have retained positions in preparation for the much-heralded economic recovery are soon going to realize that demand for their services or goods isn’t as buoyant as they were hoping for and, at that point, they’ll begin cutting costs again, starting with positions that are surplus to requirements,” said Killeon.
The firm said that a survey it conducted among 100 of its most active clients had revealed that 68% of them had held off cutting jobs in anticipation of a pickup in overall economic activity while only 12% said they planned to hire if the economy stagnated. The survey also indicated that confidence among employers appears to be waning as economic data points to a slowdown.
Recruitment Associates says that it is not overly concerned about the impact of a US slowdown upon the employment market in Asia. “The market here is fairly robust and there is plenty of optimism among key employers particularly within the financial arena and within information technology. There will be fallout if the US raises interest rates but not enough to cause any serious issues in the local employment market,” concluded Killeon.
