Red Cross Mela begins at Kala Kendra

Jammu, December 15 (Scoop News) –Minister for Health & Family Welfare  Sham Lal Sharma has called for further strengthening the Red Cross Society to achieve its objective. He stressed on the need for massive participation of all stakeholders of the society to make this vital organization more vibrant and result oriented.

            Addressing a large gathering of people from different walks of life after inaugurating a 2-day Red Cross Mela organized by the IRCS Jammu Region, at Kala Kendra, here today, the Minister said that Indian Red Cross Society is a pioneer organization, rendering selfless philanthropic services for the betterment of the society. He said the organization has been rendering service to the destitute, disabled and other distressed classes, besides carrying out commendable work during natural calamities. The organization’s mandate is sacred and noble and “we all should support this sacred body whole heartedly to full-fill its commitment”, Sham said.

            Lauding the efforts of organizers for holding the Mela, the Minister said and hoped that the event will go a long way in generating awareness amongst the people, especially students and helping in promoting the mandate of the organization. He asked the students and younger generation to associate with the IRCS and contribute their valuable role. He also asked students to donate blood generously to save precious lives.

            Divisional Commissioner, Jammu  Pradeep Gupta, who is also Chairman of IRCS Jammu Region highlighted the importance of the Society and said that efforts are afoot to involve more and more people in its fold. He gave brief resume of the functioning of the Organization and steps initiated to further improve it.

            Honorary Secretary, IRCS Jammu Region,  Anil Padha presented the vote of thanks on the occasion. He expressed his gratitude to educational institutions and other participants in the Mela. He expressed his special thanks to the NGOs, departments who have displayed their stalls in the Mela for the awareness of the people in different fields.

            Several organizations/departments have displayed their stalls to educate the general masses. The Minister inspected the stalls and interacted with the participants.

            Students of different colleges and schools presented a colorful bonanza of cultural items and patriotic songs. Local artists also displayed their talent in folk songs and culture.

            On December 16, a Raffle Draw will be held and several prizes will be distributed.

            Heads of various departments, members of NGOs, functionaries of IRCS, prominent citizens and hundreds of volunteers participated in the first day of Mela.
