Secretary Clinton announced this morning that a Red Cross campaign that allows donors to give $10 to Haiti relief by text message had raised over $3 million.
The news was reported by State Department New Media Director Katie Dowd on Twitter, a microblogging platform that helped fuel the charity campaign. Dowd said, "Sec. Clinton just said mobile giving has raised more then $3 million to relief efforts for Haiti."
The Los Angeles Times also reported that Clinton said on MSNBC the campaign raised over $3 million.
The campaign asks donors to text the word ‘Haiti’ to 90999, then asks for confirmation by text message before charging the individual. Yesterday the Red Cross made headlines by reaching over $1 million in donations in less than 24 hours.
The Red Cross has not yet announced the news, though they stated that they had reached "nearly $3million" through the campaign.
A representative for Public Affairs at the Red Cross could not confirm either report.
