Village Farmer’s Association (VFA), which is a part of Reliance Foundation’s Bharat-India Jodo (BIJ) program,greatly assists needy farmers of India. It guidesthem in various farming processes and provides modern equipment and better quality seeds. It has made a significant contribution to the Ishanpur village in Gujarat.
The Foundation helps farmers to carry out activities like land cleaning, bunding, diversion drain creation and deep ploughing. To boost irrigation, it also constructs farm ponds along with pipelines. All of these help the farmers yield more than a single crop. Reliance Foundation has successfully changed many single-cropping systems to multi-cropping ones.
The Reliance Foundation Information Services team further assists farmers to improve their agricultural yield. It offers advice on the type of cropsto be cultivated on varied kinds of land through different seasons. This helps them to earn greater profits from the produce and instils self-confidence.
The Foundation has initiated a series of land and water resource development activities. It also helps farmers understand the use and benefits of organic fertilizers. The implementation has improved land quality and completely eliminated the use of chemical fertilizers.
The Reliance Foundation has helped to set up a haat (local market) to secure good returns for the agricultural produce from the village. The Foundation’s BIJ and VFA initiatives have worked to create such opportunities in more than ten villages.
Besides, the organization provides funds to release mortgaged landand assists needy farmers in repaying their loan. It has also helped to create a Reliance Nutrition Garden (RNG) to fulfil the nutritional requirements of the farmers and give food security to their entire family. In addition, it gives excellent care and quality medical treatment.
