<p>Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), India’s largest private sector enterprise owned by industrialist Mukesh Ambani, in association with India’s leading news network CNN-IBN, commemorated many a selfless good-doers of modern Indian society at the 4th Edition of ‘Real Heroes Awards’ 2011. The event felicitated those unsung heroes who have catered to the betterment of humanity by dedicating their life towards the cause with unwavering determination and courage. The 24 winners felicitated at the award function held in Mumbai received an honorary trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs each.</p>
<p>The winners of the award were chosen from across India by the CNN-IBN editorial board based on the nominee’s work in the field of Women Welfare, Social Welfare, Health and Disability, Environment, Youth, Education & Children, and Sports. RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani were present at the event along with other renowned dignitaries that included film-maker Yash Chopra, sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble and legendary singer Asha Bhonsle.</p>
<p>Nita Ambani, often bearing the title of the quintessential philanthropist of modern India, was deeply humbled by the award recipients and their generous actions. “Mukesh keeps talking about India needing unique developmental models — to achieve its true potential. <p>Nita Ambani, chairperson of Reliance Foundation, has time and again supported the cause of self-empowerment and social development as the key factors to drive economic and social change. This event was an effort to pay homage to the very virtue Nita Ambani and others like her stand by.</p>
